A disappointing 8th win at ‘160.1km’! The season ended early, why did Moon Dong-ju say, “I got a perfect score of 100”?

Hanwha pitcher Dong-joo Moon finished his season finale appearance and went on a break early.메이저놀이터

Moon Dong-ju appeared as a starting pitcher in the game against LG held at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on the 3rd, and was replaced at 1st and 2nd base with one out and 1 out in the 5th inning leading 5-3. He threw 105 pitches over 4⅓ innings, allowing 11 hits, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, and 3 runs. He failed to add any multipliers.

Due to the high pitch count early on, he did not complete five innings. Moon Dong-ju threw 33 pitches in the first inning, 32 pitches in the third, and threw 82 pitches until the third inning. He allowed one run in the first inning, one run in the second, and a solo home run to Oh Ji-hwan after one out in the fifth inning. After receiving consecutive hits and with one out and runners on first and second base, the pitcher was replaced.

Coach Choi Won-ho, who said before the game, “Moon Dong-ju can throw about 100 pitches,” tried to accommodate Moon Dong-ju’s victory requirements as much as possible, but it was clear that his pitching status had declined as he allowed home runs, hits, and hits in succession. The team’s victory was more important than Moon Dong-joo’s victory requirement.

After Moon Dong-ju went down, reliever Kim Beom-soo, Joo Hyun-sang, and Park Sang-won threw no runs and maintained a 5-3 lead until the end, leading to victory. Kim Beom-soo recorded a relief win. After the game, coach Choi Won-ho said, “Moon Dong-ju made his last appearance of the season today, and I want to tell him that he has had a hard time all season.”

In his second year as a professional, Dong-Ju Moon finished the season with 8 wins and 8 losses in 23 games, an ERA of 3.72, and 95 strikeouts. Last April, he recorded a KBO official speed of 160.1km. He was listed as having the fastest speed among all domestic pitchers in the KBO League.

Moon Dong-ju, who finished the season by pitching today due to the Hanwha team’s ‘120 innings limit’, said, “I have a lot of regrets. I want to play the starting rotation this season without getting sick and give 100 points.” Next is a Q&A with Dongju Moon.

-I guess it was very disappointing.

Since it was the last time, I wanted to show a lot of good performances, but I got a lot of hits. There were many times when the count went against him, and he seemed to be very disappointed overall.

I think it would have been okay if the game had been better if there had been fewer hits, but I feel very disappointed because the game wasn’t as good.

-Did he throw it knowing that it was his last game?

I threw each episode with the thought that it was the last. So today, I think I ended up doing my best with each and every hit rather than adjusting my strengths and weaknesses. Because it’s the last time.

-I think it wasn’t perfect today, perhaps because there were parts I was less satisfied with such as balance than usual . It wasn’t as perfect as I thought. I knew that I had to play the game even in those situations, so I tried to last as many innings as possible.

-There were a lot of full counts from the first inning and a lot of pitches. How did you try to compete?

I remember getting three hits in the first inning, but I think I got more hits because LG’s batting lineup was so strong. As I was getting hits, I unconsciously tried not to get hit, and the ball count got longer. I threw it with the same feeling as usual, but my balance was a little off.

-I heard you are going to Seosan now. How are you spending your time before the Asian Games?

I haven’t received the training schedule yet, so I’m not sure exactly what will happen. I will prepare diligently as soon as the schedule comes out.

-The 120 innings limit was planned long ago, but isn’t it disappointing that you can’t even be with the first-team players now?

I want to help the team win, and since the club made the decision out of consideration for me, I think I should live with gratitude. As much as you thought about it, I will go to the Asian Games and come back with good results.

-Do you have any desire to throw more or challenge for 10 wins?

What I want to throw is that I want to keep throwing even during the off-season. I should have thrown well when I had the chance. As always, even if I had a career-high season, I think there will be some regrets. Since every athlete has that level of regret, I think they will prepare harder for the Asian Games.

-Looking back on this season as a whole.

First of all, I am doing well and not in pain, so I am feeling very good and positive. The season isn’t over yet, but I’m not sick so far and I’m doing well, so I think I’ve achieved my goal.

-How would you rate yourself?

I think I got 100 points so far because it didn’t hurt and I did well. Because I didn’t set a record goal, I made the rotation this year without getting hurt, so I’m 100 points in that regard, and I think I need to set it again for the baseball aspect.
