The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 18th, “We will create a waterside ecological cultural space connected to the Han River along with a world-class ‘Sports and MICE Complex’ including a dome stadium in Jamsil.”

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon visited the Rogers Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on the 17th (Korean time). Rogers Center is the home stadium of the Toronto Blue Jays, where Ryu Hyun-jin plays. On this day, Mayor Oh Se-hoon even held a first pitch ceremony ahead of the Boston Red Sox game.

Mayor Oh Se-hoon toured the stadium with Toronto team officials and came up with a plan to build a dome stadium.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, construction of Jamsil Dome Stadium will begin in the first half of 2026. After the 2025 season ends, the existing Jamsil Stadium will be demolished and construction of a dome stadium will begin in its place. It is planned to be completed by the end of 2031.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government said, “It is built in a dome shape, so it can operate stably without being affected by bad weather such as rain or heat waves. We plan to connect the baseball stadium and the hotel to provide unique experiences in various areas of the hotel, such as guest rooms, restaurants, and fitness facilities.” He said.

If everything goes according to Seoul City’s plan, the LG Twins and Doosan Bears, who are using Jamsil Stadium, will have to find a temporary home stadium from the 2026 season to the 2031 season.

Seoul City initially considered Jamsil Main Stadium as a replacement stadium, but excluded it due to safety concerns as the entire area was under construction. It is known that Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, Mokdong Stadium, KT Wiz Park in Suwon, and SSG Landers Field in Incheon are being considered as replacement baseball stadiums.

If the two teams remain in Seoul, the remaining stadiums are Gocheok Sky Dome and Mokdong Stadium. Gocheok Sky Dome is the home stadium of Kiwoom Heroes. An amateur baseball tournament is being held at Mokdong Stadium. In particular, Mokdong Stadium is not holding night games due to lighting and noise problems. If Mokdong Stadium is used, problems with resolving civil complaints will also arise.

It is a time when countermeasures are needed from not only the two teams, but also the KBO and Seoul City.
